Brew Instructions
Good coffee starts with great beans, but how you brew them makes all the difference. Whether you’re brand new to specialty coffee or have been dialing in your morning cup for years, these simple guides will help you get the most out of every brew.
FRENCH PRESS
Ratio: 1:15
• 30g coffee (≈ 5 tbsp)
• 450g water (≈ 2 cups)
Method
1. Add Coarsely Ground Coffee
Place 30g (≈ 5 tbsp) into the press.
2. Bloom
Add 50g hot water, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Let steep for 1 minute. This is called the bloom and allows your coffee to off-gas.
3. Finish Pouring
Pour the rest of 400g hot water in concentric circles to allow all the grounds to be steeped. Let steep for 3 more minutes.
4. Press and Pour
Press the plunger down slowly and evenly. When you pour the coffee into your vessel, make sure not to pour too quickly: try and avoid getting grounds into final cup.
Brew Time: 4 minutes
Notes on Extraction
This method embraces a full bodied cup of coffee. Since the primary means of extraction is immersion and turbulence, the French Press is known for its syrupy mouthfeel. At the same time, the metal filtration can sometimes allow grounds through: this is gritty and doesn’t taste good.
